Issue / Question:
I have 92k miles on my explorer. For some time (10k miles or so) the transmission has been very ‘jerky’ when I put it in gear, sometimes the wheels peel out, other times while driving and it switches gears it jerks hard. And when I put it into Drive, it goes in hard and jerks. I have always heard to leave transmission problems alone, as they usually get worse if you try to fix them. Basically wait until it just gives out. What advice do you have for this problem? I need/plan to keep this vehicle for a while and want to do the right thing.

Answer:
If you do nothing there’s a good chance something will brake internally sooner or later. I would like to look at the transmission data on our NGS scan tool and look and see if theres a reprogram that might take care of all the issues. In many cases that’s all thats needed is just a reprogram or in this case a faulty electronic pressure solenoid could also cause the problem.
