Issue / Question:
I’m having problems starting my car. Every so often when I turn the key in the ignition, nothing happns except for the usual lights lighting up on the panel. When going through the gears (as a mechanic advised), the car finally starts. I’ve recently had a transmission service change the PRNDL switch (neutral safety switch) and it seemed alright until my wife called me and said it was acting up again. Please help!

Answer:
We need to scan the vehicle with our GM Tech 2 Scan tool to see if the computer is reading your key! There is a sensor in the steering column by the key tumbler that reads the key’s resistance. If it does not read the key, install the key. Turn to on position for 10 minutes; sometimes this will work by turning the computer and anti-theft system into a default, allowing the car to start. This is a common problem and we replace many pass key readers for this issue.
