Car Information:
Ford/Explorer
Year: 2003
Engine Size: 4.6 V8
Trans: Automatic

Issue / Question:
My explorer is cutting off on its own, but only does it under certain circumstances. It only happens on cold days when the heat is on and will only shut off at idle whether in park or while stopped at a light while in drive. In either instance I can simply put it in park and turn the key and it starts right back up and runs fine. The only modifications to the vehicle are a K&N cold air intake kit and remote start. I tested the battery and alternator on Friday and they are both good.

Answer:
If the check engine light isn’t on I would suspect low minimum idle air flow like a restricted idle air control or restricted throttle body. Let us know if you want us to take a look at it.
