Issue / Question:
Hello, my question concerns an engine noise that started @ about 95k miles. Oil & filter have been replaced religiously every 3k miles. To say that the truck has been babied is a understatement. It has never towed anything & most of the mileage is hwy. According to the internet the noise on cold start is most likely “piston slap” it goes away after a minute at idle. My question is would an oil additive help and if so what would you recommend? I enjoy your radio show & find it interesting that you worked for new car dealers. I was a Chevrolet dealer service manager for 37 years in New Jersey. Your show is very informative, I could only wish that I could have had a tech like you in my shop. Perhaps I would still be there. Keep up the good work!

Answer:
Thanks for the compliment! Your right the noise may be those darn
short skirt pistons! If the noise goes away quickly its most likely pistons. It never hurts anything doesn’t cause any problems just noisy. Never seen this condition shorten engine life only causes e-mails like this one where consumers complain about the noise.
Thanks for listening.
