Issue / Question:
Trouble with serpentine belt. Had AC compressor with bad pulley freezing up, so I removed compressor and installed bypass pulley and bracket. Truck is not worth replacing compressor, but is otherwise still useful. Since installing new belt with bypass pulley, when starting truck, the belt slips off the crankshaft by one groove. Haven’t run it for more than a couple minutes because I don’t want to destroy anything else. Replaced tensioner, even though it looked ok, with same result. Any suggestions?

Answer:
Bypass pulley isn’t aligning up properly, Take it back to wherever you bought it and get your money back. Listen, I understand you don’t want to spend a bunch of money on this but listen, call and find a used A/C compressor at a local salvage yard figure $75.00 to $100.00.
Bolt it on and connect your lines and reinstall the belt. Now if you want to get real brave pay a local shop a few bucks to evacuate and recharge the system, you will most likely spend around $200.00 and its fixed and got A/C, It would be different if you were not capable of doing the work yourself!
