Timing Belts

Car Information:
Honda Accord EX
Year: 2002
Engine Size: 4cyl. 2.3l
Trans: Automatic

Issue / Question:
I bought the car at 80K, now 98K, alt belt looks new. Is it worth it (cost) to check timing belt? And what’s the cost of Timing Belt service – belts, water pump… Do you also replace any seals, balancer seal, oil pump seal?

Answer:
It would be in your best interest to have the cover removed and the belt inspected. Since its due or if its been done it should be easy to tell if the components are new! If it needs the service the following is included,

Cam shaft seals, Crank shaft seal, balancer shaft seal, Timing belt, Water pump, Water pump O’ ring seal, Idler pulley / Tension #1, Idler pulley #2, A/C belt, P/S belt, Alt belt, Coolant, Parts and labor $853.03, and comes with a 5 year 80,000 mile nation wide warranty.

Let us know if we can help, and if it does need the service will you be needing a loaner vehicle?

Trunk Fills Up With Water

Car Information:
Honda Accord
Year: 2003
Engine Size: V6
Trans: Automatic

Issue / Question:

A challenging water leak problem. My trunk fills up with water, but not when it rains. For example, it can rain and pour all night long, and in the morning I open the trunk before going to work and it is completely dry. However, when I get to work and open the trunk (not raining at all during the drive), there’s a good amount of water in the wheel well for the spare tire. The rest of the trunk is dry, but the water pools at the bottom of the spare tire wheel well. Overall, it’s something about driving down the road that pushes the water up (I think) into the trunk.

So, what do you think? Is that a challenge for you?

Answer:
Sounds like water is leaking into the car and then running back to the wheel well when your driving it. I suggest jacking the front of the car up then spraying the car down with a hose while looking in the trunk for a water trail.

Hey not just my Saturday radio show but your owners manual as well! Lets use the 0-W-30 for the engine and change it every 10,000 mile and drain the transmission fluid every 30,000 mile with the first drain and fill at 15,000 miles with the Amsoil low viscosity ATF.

Intermittant Starter Problem

Car Information:
Honda Accord
Year: 2004
Engine Size:
Trans: Automatic

Issue / Question:
Recent intermittent starter problem. Unsure where the problem is located, and happens 2-3 times during the day. Will eventually start/turnover.

Answer:
We may need to do a circuit test from the ignition to the starter to see if we have voltage to make a correct diagnoses. Theft deterrent, Ignition pass key reader, Ignition switch, Starter solenoid, Starter motor, Connection problem, Bad ground, can all cause this concern,

AC Compressor

Car Information:
Honda Accord
Year: 2004
Engine Size: 6 Cylinder
Trans: Automatic

Issue / Question:
Air conditioner compressor doesn’t come on.
Fuses were checked, it has lots of freeon.
The compressor clutch won’t engage. My neighbor says it is an electrical problem.

Answer:
We see where the distance between the compressor pulley and clutch wears and becomes too great for the coil to magnetize the clutch to engage it. If there is voltage at the compressor coil its most certain going to take a new clutch coil and pulley assembly to repair the problem.
