Car Information:
Ford/E250
Year: 2003
Engine Size: V6
Trans: Automatic

Issue / Question:
The engine detonation (like a bomb, not timing) is between 150.00 and 175.00 and normal maintenance is with bulk oil. My question is: would it help to perform an engine flush and switch to amsoil on the remaining running vans? The other vans range in mileage from 90,000 to 125,000 and do not appear to have any problems at this point.

Answer:
Why don’t we do this, lets take one and flush the engine with the Amsoil flush, install 10-W-30 Amsoil then check the oil at 3000 miles and see how discolored the oil is at that point. If it’s really black after 3K, we know the motor is very dirty inside. If it stays clean or amber in color for 5K+ miles, I would perform the engine flush and amsoil switch to the remaining vans(engine, transmission, and differentials) and plan on another 100 K.
