Ford Exhaust Leak

Car Information:
Ford
Year: 2003
Engine Size: 7.3
Trans: Automatic

Issue / Question:
I purchased this truck about 2 years ago. Excellent condition and great truck. Lately I have noticed that you can smell a stronger diesel smell than before. I can even smell the diesel odor coming through vent when you turn ignition on while waiting for the warmer light to go off before starting. This truck is not driven every day and sometimes for weeks. Any ideas or should this be considered normal?

Answer:
I suspect either you may have developed an exhaust leak in the engine compartment or the re-circulate door for the A/C isn’t working.

Exhaust Leak

Car Information:
Ford Escape
Year: 2008
Engine Size:
Trans: Manual

Issue / Question:
You have changed the oil on this vehicle twice w/Amsoil. I am hearing what sounds like valve clatter for a while when I first start driving. It has only 16,000. Should this be something covered in Ford Dealer Warranty?

Answer:
It may be an exhaust leak. I have another customer with the same vehicle, had an exhaust leak only when cold. After the engine got to normal temp the exhaust manifold expanded a little and the leak/noise went away.
