Issue / Question:
My car lunges when I take off, but only in first gear. When I drive on the open road, or going up a hill at 40 miles per hour, it drives fine. Why does it lunge when taking off in first gear? Now, I know that I need to change the head gasket, could that possibly be the problem? Or do the spark plugs need to change?

Answer:
It is unlikely that this issue is being caused by a head gasket–the head gasket on this car is a tri-metal gasket that I have never seen fail. There is a possibility that it could be a cam cover gasket. If it is leaking coolant internally or externally, it is usually a warped block or cylinder head. If any of the above are occuring, I would assume it could cause the problem you are describing.
