Hurricanes and Tropical Storms
Being prepared can make the difference between a
smooth evacuation and a nightmare.
- Have an evacuation plan. Know where you will go and
research several alternate routes before a hurricane threatens. Make sure
friends and family members know your route and destination.
-
Pack a few supplies early. You'll be glad you did.
- Medicines
- Flashlights and batteries
- A portable radio
- Food and water
- A full tank of gas
- A fully charged cellular phone
- Be prepared to evacuate upon the orders of your local
authorities. Don't wait until the last minute. You'll risk getting caught in
traffic jams and worsening weather.
- Make sure your vehicle is serviced before the storm
approaches. Don't be caught off-guard — get your vehicle serviced at the
start of hurricane season.
- Don't drive through flooded roads. But if you must, heed
these flood driving safety tips.
- Be alert for high winds.
