Car Information:
Pontiac Montana
Year: 2003
Engine Size: Not Sure
Trans: Automatic

Issue / Question:
My son is considering buying a 2003 Montana that needs a head gasket repair/replacement. He says it looks very clean and well-maintained, but I’m wondering whether the head gasket repair that is needed indicates expensive problems that will need to be considered or addressed.

Answer:
Unless severely overheated, the head gaskets are most likely fine. Most likely, the current owners have had the vehicle incorrectly diagnosed. To do a complete value job and head gasket replacement could easily run over $2,000. An intake gasket replacement with a minor engine tune is less than $1,000.
